Although a cherry blossom comes from the Japanese Cherry, which makes it a well-known sight in Japan, there are other places that grow it too during Spring!
It’s officially the start of Spring and that means it’s Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Season in Japan. Over the next few weeks thousands of tourists will be flocking to Japan to see this enchanting wonder. A cherry blossom is a flower of any of several trees of genus Prunus, in particular the Japanese cherry (Prunus serrulata), which is called Sakura in Japanese. Although it’s origin is Japanese, did you know that Japan is not the only country in the world you can see the world-famous cherry blossoms during spring. It has become a common misconception during Spring that Cherry blossoms only grow in Japan. But these world-renowned flowers known for their color and beauty can also be seen on the other parts of the world.
So here are the other places you can see it:
1. Washington, DC, USA
The trees that surround Jefferson Memorial and around the Tidal Basin area in Washington DC are home to the world-famous cherry blossom trees. Every year around end March to April, thousands of photographers rush to Tidal Basin to capture photos of the cherry blossom as the sun rises, sets or with the Jefferson Memorial in the background.
Elsewhere in North America, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in New York and Vancouver, home to more than 37,000 cherry trees, are other good places to visit.
2. Paris, France

5. Seoul, South Korea
Located close to Japan, Korea also enjoys cherry blossoms during Spring. The Yunjung-ro Path located behind the National Assembly Building in Seoul is the must-see place when looking for cherry blossoms in Seoul. This 5 kilometer path lined with 1,400 cherry blossom trees transforms into a snow-white path for the Yeouido Sprin Flower Festival.
Other places such as Busan and Jeju Island also enjoy an abundance of cherry blossoms during Spring, so there’s quite a lot of options.
6. Copenhagen, Denmark
As far north as Denmark, Cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is a beautiful place during spring right Drawing after the cold winter. In Stockholm, the Kungsträdgården (“The King’s Garden”) is the most famous site for cherry blossoms. One of the city’s most popular ray ban outlet parks, The King’s Garden is home to the city’s biggest number of cherry blossom trees, which bloom every Spring.
