7 Best Cities to see the Cherry Blossoms outside Japan

Although a cherry blossom comes from the Japanese Cherry, which makes it a well-known sight in Japan, there are other places that grow it too during Spring! 

It’s officially the start of Spring and that means it’s Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Season in Japan. Over the next few weeks thousands of tourists will be flocking to Japan to see this enchanting wonder. A cherry blossom is a flower of any of several trees of genus Prunus, in particular the Japanese cherry (Prunus serrulata), which is called Sakura in Japanese. Although it’s origin is Japanese, did you know that Japan is not the only country in the world you can see the world-famous cherry blossoms during spring. It has become a common misconception during Spring that Cherry blossoms only grow in Japan. But these world-renowned flowers known for their color and beauty can also be seen on the other parts of the world.

So here are the other places you can see it:

1. Washington, DC, USA

The trees that surround Jefferson Memorial and around the Tidal Basin area in Washington DC are home to the world-famous cherry blossom trees. Every year around end March to April, thousands of photographers rush to Tidal Basin to capture photos of the cherry blossom as the sun rises, sets or with the Jefferson Memorial in the background. 

Elsewhere in North America, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in New York and Vancouver, home to more than 37,000 cherry trees, are other good places to visit.

2. Paris, France

Aside from all the famous tourist attractions, Paris is home to cherry trees. That’s right, every Spring, the city is filled with cherry blossoms along the famous monuments such as: 

  • Parc du Champ de Mars near Eiffel Tower

3. Heerstrasse, Bonn, Germany

Also known as Cherry Blossom Avenue, the street is famous for it’s annual cherry blossom bloom. Every year around April, for two to three weeks, the street is lit up by the beautiful pink colors of cheap jordans for sale the cherry blossoms encouraging photographers and tourists to visit this city in Germany. The cherry blossom trees were planted in the 1980’s and has since become a popular tourist attraction. Bonn is accessible by train from Dusseldorf or Cologne, Germany. 

4. London, United Kingdom

During Spring, London has many parks where cherry blossoms can be found. One of the best places is the Kew Gardens, but with an admission fee of £15. Don’t worry there are other parks that the cherry blossoms can be enjoyed:

  • Kensington Gardens
  • St. James Park
  • Regent’s Park
  • Greenwich Park

All of which have gorgeous walkways, trees, and cherry blossoms to enjoy.

5. Seoul, South Korea

Located close to Japan, Korea also enjoys cherry blossoms during Spring. The Yunjung-ro Path located behind the National Assembly Building in Seoul is the must-see place when looking for cherry blossoms in Seoul. This 5 kilometer path lined with 1,400 cherry blossom trees transforms into a snow-white path for the Yeouido Sprin Flower Festival.

Other places such as Busan and Jeju Island also enjoy an abundance of cherry blossoms during Spring, so there’s quite a lot of options.

6. Copenhagen, Denmark

As far north as Denmark, Cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is a beautiful place during spring right Drawing after the cold winter. Cherry blossoms are quite famously seen in Buspebjerg Cemetery, where thousands of toursists and photographers visit to snap photos of the pink, vibrant flowers.

Other places in Copenhagen that have good cherry blossom spots include Langelinie and Kongens Have.

In Stockholm, the Kungsträdgården (“The King’s Garden”) is the most famous site for cherry blossoms. One of the city’s most popular ray ban outlet parks, The King’s Garden is home to the city’s biggest number of cherry blossom trees, which bloom every Spring. 

In 1998, sixty-three Japanese cherry trees were planted and each spring under the cherry blossom trees, people gather to soak up the warm sun, eat ice-cream, gossip, and play chess. There’s also a Cherry Blossom Festival celebrated in Stockholm that is in partnership with the Japanese government.

Cherry blossoms are definitely a sight to behold. Millions of people around the world flock to different parts of the world to get a glimpse of this beautiful spring event. Other notable places cherry blossoms could be found include: China, Finland, Italy, and other parts of the USA and Canada, making Spring one of the best times to travel.
